Mount Etna, the most active volcano in Europe, is currently on eruption. Started on 13 August 2025. This event is classified as a subterminal eruption, with lava emerging from a fissure near the base of the Bocca Nuova crater, at an altitude of roughly 3,000 meters. The lava flow is progressing in the direction of the Alto Montana road. Alongside the effusive activity, sporadic Strombolian explosions of volcanic material, including sand and lapilli, have been observed at the South-East Crater. The volcanic tremor amplitude remains at moderate levels, while seismic activity has been recorded along the Pernicana fault.
