The “Indicator Templates” screen will appear on the right side of your screen. Click on the “Moving Averages” Folder. Follow the list down to the words MACD Histogram...then select it. MACD histograms are a popular tool used in technical analysis which Visually depict the DIFFERENCE between the MACD and its NINE-DAY Exponential Moving Average. Your long and short cycles are at the default setting of 26 and 13. You can change the length of the cycles, though many use the default lengths. Your “Signal Period” is set at 9. Lets add the “Histogram” to the chart by pressing the “Add Button”. Then select the “Close Button” in the bottom right of the “Indicator Templates Screen” to enlarge the charting screen. When the MACD is above its nine-day EMA the histogram is positive...and the histogram is negative when the MACD is below its nine-day EMA. If prices are in an uptrend, the histogram grows bigger as the prices start to rise faster. But as price movement begins to slow down the histogram contracts. The same principle works in reverse as prices are falling. As price actions accelerate to the downside, the MACD histogram makes new lows. The MACD histogram is one of the main tools traders use to gauge momentum, because it gives a visual representation of the speed of price movement.
