My hotel, as with all the hotels I’ve been staying at are based on reviews on booking.com or trip.com. So far they’ve been fine. The hotel I’m staying at now is just 5 minutes from the shopping street mall. Food is plentiful too. There’s too much choice! I was told that Pi Jiu Yu (Beer Fish) is a must-try. Also rice noodles since rice is grown in abundance in Guilin. As I was walking through the mall, I saw this fish restaurant and asked if they had beer fish. I wasn’t expecting to have to get a live fish to cook from scratch. I told him I only wanted a small one and that was the best he could do. Anyway, I think I did justice to it. Besides its Fish Friday, although I had forgotten while on the train! The huge bowl the fish came in scared me, but it’s not a deep dish. The fish had been cut into small chunky pieces and one has to spit out the bones when eating the pieces. A bit messy! Well, it was an interesting experience all the same and it was tasty, although I couldn’t taste the beer.
