In Revitalization and Repair: Addressing American Indian Health Disparities the speakers, Stephanie Iron Shooter and Kathy Masis, MD, presented a holistic understanding of health in Native American communities on the individual and community level. The health needs and disparities for Native Americans living on reservations, in urban areas, and in rural areas as well as the modes of healthcare seeking to address those needs were discussed. The question of whether and how a nationalized, single payer healthcare system might benefit Native Americans was also addressed. Stephanie Iron Shooter, BA, (Sicangu/Aaniih), American Indian Health Advocate and Advisor Kathy Masis, MA, BSN, MD, whose experience includes working for the Indian Health Services as a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Public Health Service on the Navajo Reservation in Tuba City, Arizona, and with tribal communities in Montana and Wyoming.
