In this video, we share our 3-day experience exploring the best of Panama City — from Casco Viejo and the Panama Canal to lesser-known local spots and food recommendations. We started in Casco Viejo (San Felipe), the city’s old quarter known for its colonial architecture and lively streets. Highlights included Plaza Bolívar, San Francisco de Asis Church, Metropolitan Cathedral, Arco Chato, and the Church of Saint Joseph with its iconic golden altar. Nearby, we also passed La Calle De los Sombreros and the Panama Canal Monument in Plaza de Francia, with great views from Paseo Esteban Huertas. Our food stop was at Mercado De Marisco, Panama City’s bustling seafood market, followed by a walk along the scenic Cinta Costera, where we spotted pelicans, raccoons, and the iconic Panama sign. In the evening, we visited Via Argentina in El Cangrejo, a vibrant area filled with restaurants and bars. We had dinner at Cholo Grill, offering great value and local flavor. Day 2 focused on the Panama Canal, specifically the Miraflores Locks. Pro tip: check the official schedule before visiting. To fill time before the afternoon ship transit, we hiked up Ancon Hill, the city’s highest point, for sweeping views. At the base, we stopped by Mi Pueblito Tourist Centre and explored the Afro-Antillean Plaza. Back at the canal, we watched a massive ship pass through the locks and caught the included IMAX movie at the visitor center for background on the canal's history and mechanics. Dinner was at Izakaya Kabuki, a cozy Japanese restaurant tucked off Via Argentina. Day 3 started with a local breakfast at El Trapiche, famous for dishes like ropa vieja and stewed sausages. We then visited Panamá Viejo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with ruins, a bell tower, and a small museum. A tram connects the various sites across the archaeological park. In the afternoon, we visited the scenic Amador Causeway, a land bridge connecting four islands: Naos, Culebra, Flamenco, and Perico Island. We passed by the colorful Biomuseo and biked along the water before enjoying a bubble tea at Perico. We ended the day at Luna Rooftop Bar. For accommodation, we stayed at Principe Hotel & Suites in El Cangrejo, a quiet, safe, and convenient area. Public transport is cheap using a metro card, and Uber is also widely available. Everything we did is in the video — from places to visit to how to get around.
