Circumstances for the Cuban cigar industry at the time were dire. Having just lost two of their most prestigious brands, they needed a cigar that would show the world that Habanos were still in fact the greatest cigars in the world - a cigar that would set the benchmark for all others. The Cohiba Linea 1492 would do just that. In hindsight, the reason given for the lines creation - to honor the great voyage of Christopher Columbus and his discovery of the "new world," - was extremely fitting, for just as Columbus' discoveries marked a new era for mankind, the birth of the Cohiba Linea 1492, marked the beginning of a new era for the Cuban cigar industry.
