A Better Way to Live: A Better Way | Week 1 | Dr. Daniel Butson The new year often brings big hopes for change, but most resolutions fade fast because willpower alone doesn’t last. Real transformation, according to Jesus in John 15, comes from connection, not effort. Instead of striving harder or trying to be the source of our own strength, we’re invited to abide, to stay connected to Jesus as the true vine. When we attach our lives to fake vines like success, relationships, or performance, burnout follows. Staying connected to Jesus produces lasting fruit, even through pruning seasons that feel uncomfortable but ultimately lead to growth, healing, and real life change. We try harder, push ourselves, and promise this time will be different, only to feel burned out a few weeks later. Jesus offers a better way to experience real change. In John 15, He explains that lasting growth does not come from striving or willpower, but from staying connected to Him. When we try to be our own source of strength, or attach our lives to fake vines like success, relationships, or performance, exhaustion follows. Abiding means living with an ongoing awareness that Jesus is with us in everyday moments, work, family stress, and hard seasons. From that connection, real fruit grows. Even pruning seasons, when life feels uncomfortable or painful, can become moments where God shapes us for deeper healing, purpose, and transformation that actually lasts.
