Dr Murray has tracked outcomes for over 43,000 twins born in Scotland over the last 35 years to find the best time for delivery, balancing the risks of stillbirth against the risks of death in the first few weeks of life. Twins are a very high-risk pregnancy, with a 3x higher risk of being stillborn or dying in the first few weeks of life (perinatal death) than single babies. Using routinely collected Scottish maternity data in a population based cohort study, Dr Murray's research helps doctors find the optimal gestational length for mothers and so the best time to deliver twins. Dr Sarah Murray is a Clinical Research Fellow at the MRC Centre for Reproductive Health, University of Edinburgh. Our Clinical Academics in Training Annual Conference, or CATAC, offers early career researchers the chance to present work and receive feedback from senior panelists in a truly interdisciplinary setting. The conference gives clinical academics the chance to meet people from all areas of biomedical science, and share ideas from many different perspectives.
