New Sound Movement: Letter "E" (Short Vowel) We introduce the short /e/ sound as in "Edge" or "Elephant." Review Sound Movement: Letter "B" We review our "Lip-Pop" sound. By revisiting the /b/ sound, we build automaticity and confidence before moving into new vowel territory. Differentiated Instruction Cubes: Choice & Engagement During our group circle, we use large, soft "Choice Cubes" to embed literacy into gross motor play: The Literacy Cube: One cube features the letters E and B. The Action Cube: This cube features high-energy movements, such as "Run like a Cheetah," "Stomp like an Elephant," or "Hop like a Bunny." Differentiating the Challenge: * For students working on articulation, we focus on the mouth shape. For students needing sensory regulation, we pair the letter with the big body movement (e.g., "E is for Elephant stomps!"). This "dual-track" system allows us to work on Constrained Skills (letter-sound) while meeting the physical needs of the child. Why this works for ECSE: By giving children the opportunity to "Run like a Cheetah" or "Stomp," we keep engagement high and reduce the "sit-and-listen" fatigue that can be a barrier for many students. It’s a perfect blend of structured literacy and the natural need for movement.
