These two sermons provide a roadmap for the modern Muslim community, moving from internal empathy to external leadership. Sermon 1: The Heart & the "One Body" This talk focuses on the spiritual obligation to feel the pain of the global community (Ummah), specifically regarding the crisis in Sudan. The "One Body" Hadith: If one part of the Muslim community suffers, the whole body should feel the fever and restlessness. True Mercy: Defined as providing safety and nourishment (like a mother’s womb), not just feeling pity. The Coffee Challenge: The speaker notes that Americans spend $3,000/year on coffee, while just $1,000/year provides an orphan with food, water, and education. The Goal: Restoring a "dead heart" through immediate humanitarian action. Sermon 2: Quranic Leadership & Vision This talk explores how leadership is a set of qualities, not a job title. Situational Leadership: Like the figure Dhul-Qarnayn, leaders must adapt—sometimes being a visionary, sometimes a mentor, and sometimes an authority figure. Three Key Roles: Khalifa (Steward): A visionary who builds a blueprint for those who come after them. Sultan (Authority): Power derived from the truth of Revelation. Imam (Foundation): Leadership built on a deep, personal relationship with Allah. The 100-Year Plan: The speaker challenges the community to stop being "middle-class status quo" and start empowering 10-year-olds to be the future presidents of the masjid. The Islamic Organization of the Southern Tier (IOST) is a mosque located in the Binghamton area, dedicated to serving the needs of Muslims in the area.
