8th November Antiphon – Tone Five NOW the God-bearing Fathers, the very mind of Christ, * have clearly spoken anew in the God-inspired holy Hierarch Philaret, * who, though living in the world, was never of the world; * a man of prayer and an undaunted New Confessor; * for like David, meek and once unknown, * he was raised up by the Lord to shepherd His holy people; * blazing brightly for the Faith once delivered unto the saints, * where thither crowned on high with the Fathers, * he intercedeth unceasingly that our souls be saved. Refrain – Tone Four NAMED for him renowned for alms and boundless mercy, * thou didst show an equal zeal in guarding the Faith, * working salvation for the many who, trusting in thy spotless confession, * looked unto thee as their hallowed shepherd; * for thou withstoodest equally the heresy of heresies, * and the godless wolves disguised in ecclesiastical garments, * as a contender for the sake of the Church, O venerable Philaret, thou boast of Hierarchs.
