The Love Parade disaster in Duisburg on July 24, 2010, claimed 21 lives and injured 652 people. What began as a joyful party ended in the largest mass panic in post-war German history. An avoidable disaster that could only have occurred because around a million visitors were allowed to stream onto the grounds through narrow access routes. Almost ten years later, the trial was discontinued on May 4 without a verdict or a determination of guilt. Victims and their families are stunned. Many are traumatized and still suffer from the consequences of the disaster: like Thorolf Schmidt, who was trampled by the crowd, or Nadine Lange, who suffered from fear of death in the crush. Reporters from Focus TV experienced the tragic event firsthand and were eyewitnesses to the disaster that was already brewing during the preparations. They document the events in images, some of which have never been broadcast before, have accompanied the victims in their fight for justice for years, and have confronted those responsible with their research.
