In this video we consider if CBD Chocolates in South Africa should be considered a foodstuff or medicine? It seems that regulation is pushing for these products to be treated as complementary medicines, primarily governed by SAHPRA and the Medicines and Related Substances Act. Considering that South Africa has a separate Act to regulate food: Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act 54 of 1972 should the Department of Health become more active in having a formal CBD position regarding foodstuffs and cosmetics. The discussion on the inclusion of CBD distillates and isolates in food extends well beyond chocolates to general edibles like gummies, honey and candy as well as beverages like CBD infused water and CBD infused coffee.
