A Made in SK Approach to Agricultural Water Mgmnt

Etienne Shupena-Soulodre, Agri-Environmental Project Manager, Water Security Agency (WSA) About the Session: Since September 2015, the Water Security Agency (WSA) has been implementing the Agricultural Water Management Strategy. New regulations, legislation and policies have been implemented to support responsible drainage. As part of the Strategy, WSA is developing a Agricultural Water Management Stewardship Policy that allows landowners to manage water while addressing impacts on neighbours and the environment. WSA has developed a comprehensive engagement process that has identified over 70 stakeholder groups, rights-holders and Indigenous communities that will play an important role in shaping the stewardship policy. Recent research and demonstration projects have provided new insights in the economic, hydrology, water quality and habitat outcomes of various approaches to responsible drainage.
