I came across a vendor on Etsy that makes and sells quality affordable down quilts for hammock campers. The Hot Foot quilts are a 40F line of quilts that are good for summer and shoulder season use. There is also a Heat Seeker 20F line of quilts, which will be reviewed at a later date when the weather is cooler out. In addition to quilt sets, you can purchase down throw blankets, individual top quilts, and individual under quilts, and even ask for customizations (adding cords, snaps, etc, as available). Steve appears to be doing a successful quilting business. A few others on YouTube, including Rob Pelton and others, have made some reviews on these quilts as well. I’m not sure if Steve is resourcing economy quilts and turning them into hammock quilts, or if the materials are all virgin sourced. Either way, he makes an affordable set of quilts that won’t break the bank. They may not have 950 fill power or ultralight 7d outer fabrics, but unless you’re a long distance trail thru-hiker, you probably don’t need all of that. At 700 fill power, these are sufficiently warm and affordable. They do lack true interior baffles, and feature sewn through design. In warmer temperatures, that won’t affect warmth any. On a colder temperature rated quilt, it might slightly affect performance in those seamed areas. For a set of 40F Hot Foot quilts, a topquilt alone runs $83 (aluminized interior fabric) and $177 for the set. For a set of 20F Heat Seeker quilts, it will run $228 for the set. Compared to other vendors like HammockGear’s Economy line which starts out at $169-$179 per individual quilt (40F rating), the Hang Tight quilts are an affordable option. Other cottage industry quilt manufacturers are even pricier, where some quilts can run upwards to $300-$400 for a single quilt (depending on brand, fill power, fabric, weight, and other options). I plan on running these quilts through their paces as time goes on, and I wouldn’t feel bad allowing my daughter to use them on camp outings when she’s a little older. Feel free to check them out and see if they’d be right for you. As always, thanks for watching. Feel free to like, comment, and subscribe as it helps the ad-free channel to grow.
