Russian and Ukrainian languages are very similar. It is because they both belong to East Slavic stem. The languages are believed to have splintered around the 12th – 13th century with Ukrainian being more influenced by Polish and Slovak languages while Russian’s primary influence was the Old Church Slavonic. Now they sound very similar, they look very similar because they both use Cyrillic alphabet and the grammatical structure of both languages is pretty similar, too. But in this video series and this video in particular I will only be comparing the vocabulary of Russian and Ukrainian.
