A significant decline in the water level of the Jhelum River in Srinagar has raised serious concerns among local boatmen and residents, particularly around the historic Lal Chowk Bund area which was once known for its scenic beauty and vibrant river activity. According to local boatmen, Lal Chowk Bund was once home to nearly 114 boats, while around 10 ghats had been constructed along the riverbank to facilitate boat operations. The river served as a major source of livelihood for thousands of people, and tourists frequently enjoyed boat rides along the Jhelum, travelling from Ranibagh to Lal Chowk Bund while taking in the beauty of the river. A local boatman, who said he has been operating boats for the past 45 years, recalled that many families were once associated with this profession. However, over the years, lack of government attention and poor planning led to the gradual decline of these activities. He said the ghats disappeared and the number of boats steadily declined, forcing many families into unemployment and compelling several boat owners to sell their boats or shikaras. Boatmen further alleged that gates at Dal Gate and Gow Kadal, which earlier allowed easy passage of boats and water transport, have been closed, further restricting river movement and affecting their work. #BreakingNews #LatestNews #JammuAndKashmir Subscribe The Channel For More Updates - Check out Latest News update From Gulistan news Like * Comment * Share - Don't forget to LIKE the video and write your COMMENT's
