In Part 6 of the Weiler Matador mechanical restoring series, we dismantle several components of the Norton gearbox to remove the damaged feed shaft. During this teardown, we also gain a clear understanding of the internal kinematics, feed mechanisms and threading logic of the gearbox. By removing selectors, gears and intermediate shafts, we can observe how motion is transmitted inside the Norton system and how the different feed rates and thread pitches are generated. This practical disassembly becomes the foundation for the complete shaft extraction and the deeper inspection that will continue in Part 7. A hands‑on chapter where mechanical work and the study of motion transmission go hand in hand. Why is it called a “Norton” gearbox? The system was invented by Wendell P. Norton (Hendey Machine Co., 1892), who patented a quick‑change gearbox that allowed thread and feed selection without swapping gears manually — a revolution for lathe operation. #WeilerMatador #latherestoration n #NortonGearbox #LatheKinematics #MechanicalRestoring #FeedShaft #ThreadingMechanism #GearTrain #VintageLathe #Metalworking #MachineryRestoration #Engineering #WorkshopProjects #MachineTools For any questions or requests, or even just for a greeting, write me at: mecmod.homeshop@gmail.com
