Aux alentours de 13h30, ce vendredi 13 novembre, le Service de Police de la Ville de Montréal a déployé un nombre important de ressource policière afin de répondre a un appel pour une possible prise d'otage dans un immeuble à bureaux se trouvant à l'intersection du boulevard Saint-Laurent et de la rue Saint-Viateur dans le quartier du Mile-End. L'immeuble en question s'agit des locaux de la compagnie Ubisoft, une entreprise spécialisée dans les jeux vidéo. L'appel a été fait à partir de l'intérieur du bâtiment rapportant que cinq hommes d'origine saoudienne détenaient une cinquantaine de personnes en otage. De plus, une rançon de 2 millions de dollars a été évoquée. Plusieurs personnes se sont barricadées dans des bureaux, dans des salles de réunion et aussi sur le toit de l'immeuble. Après avoir passé au peigne fin chaque étages pour vérifié qu'il n'y avait aucune menace, les policiers ont pu faire évacué les locaux. Un canular serait à l'origine de cet imposant déploiement policier. Une enquête suivra pour faire la lumière sur l’appel à l’origine de cet déploiement déclare le SPVM. Aucun blessé n'est a déplorer.
