Bolton Castle was built during the reign of Richard II, between 1378 and 1399 and is still owned by a direct descendent of Lord Bolton. To this day, the castle bares the scars of over 600 years of history including Mary Queen of Scot’s imprisonment and a Civil War siege, where it survived a lot of damage and remains a Grade I listed building and a Scheduled Ancient Monument. We park in the castle grounds and take a full tour around the castle rooms, dungeons, the gardens, maze and birds of prey show, as well as a very pleasant stop at the castle tea rooms, for tea and cakes. A fascinating look back at centuries of history, looking at the Lord and Lady's bedchambers and also the paranormal evenings held at the castle, due to the castles supposed haunted reputation.
