What Does the Map Say? Storytelling & Visual Representation of Negro Leagues Stadiums Through GIS Mapping Digital Maps with a strong narrative provide the viewer with multiple methods for exploring historical topics in detail. While the narrative connects the viewer with people and places, the digital map provides additional methods for presenting archival information connected to time and place. The project addresses the question: How did the Negro Leagues uniquely develop across the United States? Vanessa Viola is the Associate Director and Art & Architecture Librarian at the New York Institute of Technology, Old Westbury, New York. Vanessa was a digital printmaker with the Universal Limited Art Editions (ULAE) before earning a master's in library science from St. John's University and Instructional Technology with New York Tech. Her additional interests include collaborating with student organizations, mapping, and data curation. She is an NYC Open Data Ambassador helping New Yorkers gain fundamental data literacy skills. SABR member Fabio Montella is an Associate Professor of History and Library Services at Suffolk County Community College in Riverhead, New York. He is a graduate of Stony Brook University and a recipient of the 2021 New York State Outstanding Librarian Award and the 2024 Hugh Hastings Public History Award. His areas of historical research cover African-American baseball and women's baseball, and their respective connections to Long Island history. Fabio is currently researching a book on the Arthur Murray Women's Baseball Team of the American Girls Baseball Conference.
