Chlorex gel is a powerful antimicrobial gel containing 2% chlorhexidine Di gluconate which plays a vital role in successful endodontic treatment by effectively disinfecting the root canal system, eliminating bacteria, and preventing reinfection. COMPOSITION- 2% Chlorhexidine Di gluconate, Distilled water, and gel-based. FEATURES- • Chlorex gel is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent • It has both bactericidal and bacteriostatic action • it is chemically stable, odourless, water-soluble, does not stain clothes, and has lower cytotoxicity than NaOCl, which means it is less harmful to the surrounding tissues and cells. • it can inhibit metalloproteinases, enzymes that degrade collagen and dentin, thus preserving the integrity of the root canal walls. INDICATIONS- • Chlorex gel can be used as a disinfectant to remove microorganisms, and endotoxins from the root canals. • It can be used as an intracanal medicament to prevent recontamination and for the elimination of residual bacteria from the root canal system • Used in cases of open apex, root resorption, foramen enlargement, root perforation, or risk of extrusion into the periapical tissues. HOW TO USE- • Attach a dispensing tip to a syringe of Chlorex gel. • Insert the tip into the root canal by making sure not to bind against the canal walls. • Gently press the syringe plunger to apply an adequate amount of the gel into the root canal system, ensuring complete coverage. • Allow the 2% chlorhexidine gel to remain in the root canal for the recommended contact time, typically ranging from 1 to 5 minutes. • Once the recommended contact time has passed, thoroughly flush the root canal with ample sterile water or saline to remove any residual chlorhexidine gel.
