Tony Award-winning theater producer, Julia Dunetz, shares how stories can change the world, drawing on her experiences producing impactful Broadway plays and musicals such as HOW TO DANCE IN OHIO and SLAVE PLAY. Julia discusses how storytelling is a powerful tool in building empathy and advancing social progress with examples from her own shows. Julia argues that stories — especially those highlighting narratives on the margins — are crucial in fostering understanding, ultimately shaping culture, and driving change. She encourages everyone to engage with stories about experiences outside their own, believing that they can help create a kinder, more compassionate world. Julia Dunetz is a Tony Award-Winning theatre producer dedicated to developing new works by and about traditionally underrepresented people through song and storytelling. Julia has been a Co-Producer on Broadway productions including ROMEO + JULIET starring Kit Connor and Rachel Zegler, SUFFS (Tony Nomination) by Shaina Taub, PARADE (Tony Award) starring Ben Platt and Micaela Diamond, Alex Edelman's JUST FOR US, and SEA WALL / A LIFE (Tony Nomination) starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Tom Sturridge. She also served as the Associate Producer on the national tour of folk-punk musical HUNDRED DAYS. Currently a Producer at Level Forward, the mission-driven mini-studio, Julia is developing THE QUEEN’S GAMBIT as a musical and works on numerous other projects including the recent Broadway productions of HOW TO DANCE IN OHIO and POTUS. Prior to her current role, she was the Associate Producer at Seaview, where she worked on many shows including the Broadway production of SLAVE PLAY. Additionally, Julia has worked on roughly thirty Broadway productions through internships across the industry.
