There are many approaches we can take in the Modern Defense - going into a Hippopotamus Defense, Pirc Defense, Czech Pirc Defense, Pterodactyl Defense, Norwegian Rat Defense, Neo-Modern Defense, King’s Indian Defense, and more! So why the Tiger’s Modern Defense? Well, firstly it is a very sharp way to play chess. It allows you to fight for the win everytime - and it puts your opponent in situations where mistakes can easily be made. In fairness, same for the Tiger Modern player. It is sharp, with both players holding in the balance. The Tiger’s Modern Defense is rich in chess opening tricks, chess opening theory, chess opening principles, chess opening ideas, and chess opening strategy. It works well against the 150 Attack/English Attack, which can give many Modern Defense, Hippopotamus Defense, and Pirc Defense players trouble. It looks to fix this issue by attacking white as well! We aren’t going to wait for them to attack us, but instead go wild on the queenside and have fun playing aggressive, attacking chess. I hope you enjoy this Tiger’s Modern Defense game played by none other than GM Tiger Hillarp Perrson. This is one of the most complicated chess games I’ve ever seen, with Tiger sacrificing the rook 7 times! This game is filled with strong positional play, which leads to incredible attacking chess - risking it all (even going down 2 queens!) in order to checkmate the white king.
