What is Airway Management? Basically, it's the process of maintaining ventilation in a patient by using an artificial airway. This ensures that gas exchange can occur by establishing a link between the patient and the ventilator. This is important because we need to make sure that the patient's upper airway is free and clear of foreign substances so that air can flow into and out of the lungs. ➡️ The two most common types of artificial airways are: 1. Endotracheal tube 2. Tracheostomy tube ➡️ Advantages of Each Type: Each type has different uses and advantages, and we talk a lot about them here on this channel. But, in order for these airways to work properly, they must be inserted and maintained correctly, which is the job of a Respiratory Therapist. And that is exactly why this is such an important topic because, without a patent airway, gas flow from the mechanical ventilator will not be able to reach the patient.
