Ps Simon Schembri talks today about Bittersweet Faith: when the taste still glorifies God. Ps Simon focuses on Job and to a moment of extraordinary faith. Job has lost almost everything—his children, his health, his livelihood. His grief is overwhelming. And yet Scripture tells us that Job did not sin with his lips. Even when his wife, speaking from her own pain and despair, says, “Curse God and die,” Job refuses. Not because he doesn’t hurt—but because he will not abandon his trust in God (Job 2:1–10). This is a confronting truth: faithfulness does not mean silence, and it does not mean pretending. Job weeps. Job questions. Job laments. But he does not turn his words into rebellion. His pain is real, but his allegiance remains firm. Life is often bittersweet—a place where joy and sorrow coexist. We can hold gratitude and grief in the same heart. Scripture never tells us to rejoice for our suffering, but it does tell us we can rejoice in it. Paul writes in Romans that “we rejoice in our sufferings, because suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope” (Romans 5:3–4). This rejoicing is not emotional denial—it is spiritual endurance. It is choosing to trust God’s work in us even when circumstances feel cruel. The psalmist reminds us in Psalms that “weeping may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning” (Psalm 30:5). Morning does not always come quickly—but it does come, because God is faithful. And then, in one of the most powerful declarations of faith in all of Scripture, Job proclaims: “For I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end He will stand upon the earth.” (Job 19:25–26). So today, whatever mixture of bitterness and sweetness you are carrying, you are invited to place your hope and trust in the Lord—not because life is easy, but because our Redeemer lives. #jesus #faith #love #bible #trust #god #message @thearkchurchcoomera https://www.thearkchurch.com.au/
