Crown Precision Arms has teamed up with Kaiwhai Safaris for this season of Escape to Africa on The Sportsman Channel! We begin this episode with Chernè and Francois discussing proper footwear for a safari hunt. Then, Richard recounts his impala hunt with Francois. While they started out on the search for a waterbuck, then followed some eland, the talented hunting guides found that the eland were too young to take, but they also found some fresh impala tracks. With his .30-06, Richard nails an enormous 145 pound Impala from 189 yard out. We take a short break to discuss a hot button issue: the ethics of hunting, especially trophy hunting. We discuss the fair chase principles that have the hunters trekking for hours to spot, stalk, and hopefully shoot a prize animal. But it is more than just a trophy. These animals are experience, memories, and also a meal for the hunters and locals. Additionally, Kaiwhai Safaris only allow the taking of mature animals, keeping the young and breeding animals in the wild to keep the herds healthy and full. Then we're back in the field on the search for a kudu. It was a lengthy stalk and a tricky hunt as the kudu kept his distance and remained mostly obscured in the brush. With just enough sight picture to make a clean shot, Richard was able to bag a tremendous 530 lb kudu bull from 178 yard away. The hunt was an emotional one, but Richard was able to seal the deal and get one of his sought-after quarries.
