There have been few record labels that have made such an indelible mark on the landscape of electronic music as Poker Flat. Founded by Steve Bug in 1999, the label coined a sound and style that dominated club culture for years. Glitchy, mechanised beats paired with moody pads and sinister chords would take hold of the club scene in the mid 00s, but Poker Flat championed these stripped-back sounds well ahead of the pack. With a back catalogue that includes more than 300 releases, it’s no surprise that many of these remain club staples to this day. Many artists now recognised as household names got their first break with Poker Flat, and the label prides itself on discovering and championing the next wave of artists. Key to Poker Flat’s success has been their refusal to chase after trends, instead remaining focussed on the sound with which they established themselves. Their aim for the future is to continue to keep putting out exceptional electronic music from exceptional artists.
