Inside a Landslide Study for a Wind Turbine Project | Humboldt County, California

This video presents the results of a terrain and landslide hazard assessment along Bear River Ridge and Monument Ridge—two potential sites for the installation of 46 wind turbines. Our analysis incorporated high-resolution LiDAR, public geologic maps and cross-sections, field mapping, and rock quality data to evaluate slope stability and terrain characteristics. The findings reveal significant differences: • Bear River Ridge exhibits deep-seated landslides, ridge top failure features, and generally softer, less competent terrain. • Monument Ridge, by contrast, features sharper topography and more stable ground conditions. These observations are critical for guiding infrastructure siting and design in geologically complex areas.
