"Jagor" is the folk drama celebrated and performed by Hindu as well as Catholic Gawda Samaj(community) in Goa. "Jagor" is performed annually to get the blessings of the folk deity on the whole community. "Jagor" begins with the recitation of devotional song called ‘Naman' in which the folk artists invoke different gods and goddesses. It is followed by the appearance of well - dressed folk artists coming on the stage to the tune of folk music. "Jagor" deals with traditional village life aspects. It is generally considered as the precursor of the modern theatre in Goa.
