Steven Lipscomb, 42, of Elkview died just 10 minutes after the Rolling Thunder Mine near Drennen in Nicholas County became flooded with millions of gallons of water on November 8th, according to the Mine Safety and Health Administration's preliminary report. What Happened: 24 workers were in the mine at the time of the incident Lipscomb, a foreman, was last seen attempting to ensure his crew made it out safely No other injuries were reported Recovery Effort: Lipscomb's body was recovered after more than five days of intensive searching that required millions of gallons of water to be pumped out of the mine. Alpha Metallurgical Resources, which owns the Rolling Thunder Mine, confirmed Lipscomb's heroic final actions in a news release.
