An annual tradition at Western Michigan University for 29 years, the 2018 International Festival and Food Drive took place Sunday, March 25 on the second floor of the Bernhard Center from 4 - 8 p.m. A popular event since 1989, the Festival features cultural display tables, performances, and a fashion show presenting apparel from the students' home countries. Admission is free, and for a nominal fee, attendees may sample traditional cuisine from around the world prepared by international students in campus kitchens under the supervision of WMU Dining Services employees. For the first time, the International Festival featured a food drive for the Invisible Need Project Food Pantry. Each non-perishable food item entered attendees in to a drawing to win prizes from around campus. The International Festival annually attracts around 7,000 students and community members. With this opportunity to "travel" around the world, participants gain knowledge and appreciation for the diversity of cultures active on campus and in the community. The #WorldAtWestern highlights the global nature of the Western Michigan University campus by featuring students, faculty, staff and programs that bring the world right here to Kalamazoo.
