This video explores the Lloyd Clark Fletcher case and examines the difference between attempted murder and serious violent crime in the criminal justice system. This video begins a new series examining attempted murder cases and the difficult questions they raise about violence, escalation, and criminal justice. In many situations, the difference between attempted murder and murder comes down to survival. The intent, the violence, and the risk can be the same, but the legal outcome changes depending on whether the victim lives. In this episode we explore the Lloyd Clark Fletcher case, a case that spans decades and raises important questions about escalation, warning signs, and how the justice system responds to violent offenders. The case involves the 1987 murder of Janet Phillips in Queensland and earlier attacks that had already demonstrated serious violence. Through this case, we examine how attempted murder is treated in law, how forensic science later changed the investigation, and why cases like this continue to raise difficult questions about prevention and justice. This is also the first video I’ve recorded using my own voice, so thank you for being here while I find my rhythm.
