Gregg "Opie" Hughes and Anthony Cumia, once co-hosts of the popular "Opie and Anthony" radio show, have had a tumultuous relationship over the years. Their partnership began in 1994 but faced significant challenges, leading to a public and ongoing feud.​ In July 2014, Anthony Cumia was fired by SiriusXM after posting a series of racially charged tweets following an off-air incident. Despite the controversy, Cumia encouraged Hughes and comedian Jim Norton to continue broadcasting without him. Hughes and Norton did so, rebranding the show as "Opie with Jim Norton." ​ The relationship between Hughes and Cumia deteriorated further after Cumia's departure. In April 2015, both took to social media and their respective platforms to express grievances, revealing that tensions had been simmering since as early as 1999. Disagreements over past relationships and contract negotiations contributed to the rift. Cumia felt resentment towards Hughes for not doing more to save his job after his firing, while Hughes believed they were no longer aligned in their vision for the show. ​ In October 2016, during Hughes's first day on his new afternoon show, he and Cumia spoke for the first time in over two years in a phone call that aired live during their respective shows. Several on-air calls followed, but a full reconciliation did not occur. ​ As of February 2025, Anthony Cumia announced his return to terrestrial radio with a new show on WABC in New York City, marking his first time back on traditional radio since 2009.
