On September 11 & 12, 2017, I came to the old Alton, Illinois Amtrak station to film the last Amtrak trains stopping before it closed. I wanted to film the last trains to stop there because Amtrak was closing the station and planned to demolish it in the next few months. That station was demolished in December of that year. This was an interesting time as Amtrak had just rolled out their new Siemens Charger engines for service on their Midwest routes. A new ultra-modern Alton station opened on September 13. Located off of Homer Adams Parkway on Golf Road, it is 5 times bigger than the original built by the Chicago & Alton RR in 1928, featuring bus terminals for Madison County Transit's routes that serve the area.
