Removable flat car loads! The plastic clam shell simulated lumber load that Walthers makes for their 72' Centerbeam / bulkhead flatcar is not particularly well suited to being removed when the modeler wants to represent an empty car. I'm into removable lumber loads for my bulkhead flats. When you compare the appearance of the Walthers loads to the prototype, you recognize that they could use some improvement. I recognize that the load should actually be tied down to the appropriate spots on the car. However, I need these loads to be removable in less time that it takes to write this sentence. Then we can get the car back to the sawmill and get it loaded with building materials again for the next customer. As you can see in the video, I'm doing three sets of loads with two separate designs on the wrap. These represent different forest products companies. A side benefit of this project is that the same car can have different wrapped loads on it. I've been wanting to do this project for a very long time and I'm pleased to have it finished. When it comes to applying the Tamiya panel line wash, I'd definitely do things differently by cleaning up sooner. We go over that in the video. I've had a small fleet of these Walthers cars for too long to remember where I even got them or the loads. This certainly won't be the end of my removable loads for HO scale freight cars. I have two other styles of lumber loads to modify with magnets as well as scrap gon and equipment loads for flatcars. No idea when I'll get to those as my main focus at the moment is on HO layout construction! Links to the materials: Cabinet magnets: https://www.amazon.com/Master-Magneti...
