Need to purchase grit? Kingsley North is my go-to supplier! I purchase the 45 pound bulk options, but below I've included links to the more reasonably-sized 5 pound boxes for each stage. (These are affiliate links. You'll get Kingsley North's same great prices, but I may get a small commission if you use these links. Thanks for supporting the channel!) Stage One — I do this in a rotary tumbler, cleaning the rocks off once a week, removing any that are smooth and putting any that could be smoother back for another week. There isn't much difference between the "graded" 80 grit silicon carbide and ungraded 60/90 grit silicon carbide. Silicon Carbide 80 Grit (5 lbs): https://fas.st/t/cP2aLHN4 Ungraded Silicone Garbide 60/90 Grit (5 lbs): https://fas.st/t/ma7Uc5tc Stage Two — This is where I move to my vibratory tumbler. I prefer the graded 220 grit, but some people use an ungraded 120/220 grit. When it's complete, I rinse the rocks and check to see if anything broke or fractured (those might get put to the side and need to go back to stage one). Everything that isn't broken goes on to stage three. Silicone Carbide 220 Grit (5 lbs): https://fas.st/t/efCqoexb Stage Three — Still in the rotary tumbler. I use 600 grit silicon carbide. Silicon Carbide 600 Grit (5 lbs): https://fas.st/t/9KWd5qzG Optional Pre-Polish — I don't personally do this, but some people insert a 1000 grit, aluminum oxide stage here. Aluminum Oxide 1000 Grit: https://fas.st/t/941Lnhgw (5 lbs) or https://fas.st/t/ubHFg3FJ (1 lbs) Polish — There are several polishing options, but micro-alumina is the most common.
