Producers Oliver Maxwell and Andre Schapps are responsible for this great 1990 house re-swizzle of the '80s classic, 'Last Night A D.J. Saved My Life'. Teaming up with vocalists Lorna Stucki and Steve Eubuse, the duo cut a DJ-friendly white label and shopped it around clubs and labels, securing a one-off deal with EastWest Records. The track went on sale in the June of 1990, but whilst Indeep's classic 1982 recording had reached #13 on the UK singles chart, Olimax & D.J. Shapps' dance cover only managed one week in the top 40, with a peak position of #98. The same year, the pair had circulated another white label, the original composition 'I Can't Stand You', with a vocalist named Mia. Also, demonstrating their production skills, a double-sided bootleg 12" single with unofficial club remixes of Janis Joplin's 'Mercedes Benz' (1971) on one side and 'Saturday Love' (1985) by Cherrelle with Alexander O'Neal on the other. Named the 'Feelin' Luv Mix', the later saw a official release on a re-issue of the single by Tabu Records. Charting at #55, it wasn't a huge success, but it did prompt a reissue of Cherrelle's most recent album at the time, 1988's 'Affair', with it added as a bonus track. Maxwell and Schapps also provided remix / additional production on 1990 releases by label-mates The Grid, AKA Dave Ball and Richard Norris ('Flotation') and Big Audio Dynamite ('Kool-Aid'). Schapps remained with Big Audio Dynamite as an engineer and keys player.
