Armed with slow pitch jigging gear, electric reels, and a little bit of grit, we went deep… like 400 to 700 feet deep. I would’ve been stoked with just one, but when that second one hit—and turned out to be my personal best—I was floored. This was one of those once-in-a-lifetime deep drop trips where everything came together: the bite, the release, the crew, and the story. But this trip wasn’t just about landing them-it was about releasing them right. Using a descending device from Return ‘Em Right, we were able to safely send one of these rare fish back to the depths, clean and smooth.
