Here, the elite 3rd Assault Brigade has undergone a massive upgrade and has been transformed into a full-fledged army corps, which has already led to massive, successful counterattacks and victories. This dramatic upgrade, which will enhance combined arms and offensive capabilities with up to 20,000 new soldiers, promises to shift the balance of power near Kupiansk and Borova. The Ukrainian General Staff recently completed the restructuring of the elite 3rd Assault Brigade into the new and improved 3rd Army Corps, which has five times the troop strength and equipment and is under the command of Andriy Biletsky. This will combine five existing brigades under a single command structure, operating as a single unit, with the Third Assault Brigade forming the core of the corps. The Third Assault Brigade, one of Ukraine's most powerful units, has gained three years of combat experience and adapted NATO's modern warfare doctrine. It recently demonstrated its strength in retaking Nadiya and the surrounding areas, nullifying two months of Russian advances with thousands of casualties in a single operation. Their coordinated counterattack combined artillery, drones, tanks, and armored assault units, each covering the other units' weak points. Advancing in armored personnel carriers supported by Leopard 2 tanks, they dismounted and secured the settlement and nearby tree lines, quickly eliminating any Russian resistance. This operation was strategically important because it brought a key Russian supply route at Borova under Ukrainian fire control. The expansion of the Third Assault Brigade into a corps will increase troop strength from 4,000 to up to 20,000 soldiers. The five brigades, now operating under the unified command of the Third Army Corps, can coordinate better than they would have been able to as independent brigades. Previously, the brigades were Ukraine's largest military structure, each operating with distinct doctrines, tactics, and logistical requirements, limiting operational flexibility. Integration at the corps level will streamline command, improve coordination, and increase the effectiveness of large-scale operations. Beyond the new Third Army Corps, Ukraine is restructuring its military into 18 individual army corps, uniting five to seven brigades under a single command and covering extensive front lines dozens of kilometers wide and deep. Each corps includes intelligence, logistics, and specialized support units, increasing firepower and flexibility through the allocation of specialized artillery, air defense, reconnaissance, electronic warfare, and engineering units. With up to 20,000 troops and 900 heavy vehicles, the corps will be able to directly control sectors of the front and coordinate large-scale operations more effectively than independent brigades. The new corps commanders will benefit from improved communications and shared intelligence, enabling rapid decision-making, large-scale offensive and defensive operations, and rapid and precise responses by sending reinforcements to where they are most needed. This structure transforms localized deployments into coordinated operations that maximize battlefield impact and advance strategic objectives. In particular, this has enabled the Ukrainian Armed Forces to eliminate several vulnerabilities that the Russians had previously exploited with great success. For example, in the Borova sector, the Russians exploited the isolated structure of the Ukrainian brigade to overwhelm one brigade while simultaneously launching attacks to pin down others and find gaps between the areas of responsibility of two brigades. This allowed them to significantly expand their crater as far south as the Oskil River near Pishane. These weak points have now been eliminated, and the Ukrainian front line will form a much more solid defensive line, against which the Russians will have to commit their reserves. This massive reorganization took several months, as it had to be carried out under constant Russian offensive pressure without losing cohesion, which they ultimately succeeded in doing. With the reorganization complete, Ukraine now has many more combat-ready army corps, significantly complicating future Russian efforts. ...
