Nigerians in the diaspora are closely watching the political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections, and one major development is impossible to ignore: seven sitting governors defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC). In this video, we break down the chronological timeline of these defections, explaining what they mean for Nigeria’s political structure, electoral strategy, and the balance of power leading into 2027. Governors in Nigeria are not just symbolic leaders. They control state political structures, party machinery, local assemblies, grassroots mobilization networks, and campaign logistics. When a governor defects, political structures often move with them — including commissioners, lawmakers, and local government leaders. This is how electoral maps begin shifting years before voting actually happens. We examine how key states across the South-South, South-East, North-Central, and Northern Nigeria gradually aligned with the ruling APC between April 2025 and January 2026.
