It is the base for any model in that size. The Blank is the outer shape of the mouthpiece made up of three parts: 1 The rim 2 The body 3 The shank The rim is unfinished on a blank until the inner dimensions for that model are cut. The body is the most identifiable part of the mouthpiece. The body will determine the weight of the mouthpiece and play the most important role in how the mouthpiece will project. The shank is where the taper is cut and determine the fit.
