To purchase this recone kit: https://www.ebay.com/itm/275341388758 Foam surrounds rot...in about ten years, give or take a few. I developed this upgraded recone kit for the 2245H because of foam rot. There are other benefits, as well. The JBL 2245H was notorious for driving and impaling the voice coil out of the gap for live sound reinforcement use. I called on many night clubs that would also drive the voice coil out of the gap by either hanging them above the dance floor, aiming down, and gravity would help with the destruction with heavy bass EQ on dance music. So...when the aftermarket supply of really good parts became available, I took it upon myself to see if the improvements I had in mind would work. The answer is...they do...quite well. BTW...the rattling noise in the video is stuff shaking on the work bench from below ~50Hz...the voice coil is not rubbing. The Aquaplas on the rear of the cone is precisely measured and applied to ensure the moving mass will get to the correct free-air resonance of a 2245H. It's the identical material as used by JBL on numerous other JBL drivers. It's a time consuming process. Measure/weigh...apply...let dry for a day or two...weigh...measure/weigh/apply more if necessary...ley dry for a day or two...assemble parts into cone assembly...prep frame thoroughly and install. Tedious labor of love. Early 2245H used the natural color Aquaplas as shown here. Later models' Aquaplas was tinted charcoal black. I opted for the natural, off-white for easy identity...and it's also one less long step to tint it black. I do tint it black for the 128H-1 ( • True Reproduction Recone kit for JBL 128H-... , LE14H-1 ( • True Reproduction JBL LE14H-1 Recone kit f... , 2214H ( • JBL 2214H with No-Rot resuspension...4425,... ) The compatible frames for this cone assembly are SFG (Symmetrical Field Geometry) 2245, 2240, E155. All identical. I can also do a similar upgrade for the VGC (Vented Gap Cooling) 2241drivers that use a different style of voice coil. The voice coils are not interchangeable, no matter what some other so-called experts say. Trust me...they are not. The JBL models that beg for this driver upgrade are the B460 Subwoofer, 4345 Studio Monitor, 4645 Cinema Subwoofer...or any other home theater or live sound/DJ rig looking for clean, deep bass from an 18" subwoofer that will perform flawlessly and last a long time with proper use and care.
