It’s been less than three years since ChatGPT first launched but since then all of these people have clearly been planning a way to replace expensive ‘human intelligence work’ with far cheaper ‘artificial intelligence work’… You could almost argue that; as business leaders with a fiduciary duty to their shareholders, they would be irresponsible NOT to pursue this potential cost cutting… and the market would probably agree with you… Already several high profile business leaders, and entire teams have been fired for NOT going all in on AI… BUT for everybody else who did… there have been a few problems along the way…. These managers are realising that most jobs are more nuanced and variable than their reports could truly capture, and at the same time, AI is turning out to be a lot more expensive than they expected. Now for a lot of businesses, that hasn’t really slowed them down. Some of you watching have so perfectly put it that; “you are not worried that artificial intelligence can do your job, you are worried that some manager will THINK it can do your job”. A lot of businesses are now in the “find out” stage of this cost cutting exercise, and have started begging their workers to come back. However there is something else that has come out of this. It turns out that the most expensive and most analytical work in a business is done by… senior executives and management consultants… The boys got really excited about layoffs… without stopping to think who might be the first to go…
