Loss of habitat means that countless bird and beneficial insect species are in decline. Most California crops are pollinator dependent, so without pollinators, much of California's economy would be in trouble.Farms and working lands can play a critical role in restoring habitat and building biodiversity on farms to ensure that crops are pollinated. Healthy populations of insects and birds also means that crop pests can be controlled with a reduction in pesticide use. Hedgerows are an important way that farms can create habitat for pollinators, insectivorous birds, and natural enemies that benefit their crops. Hedgerows pay for themselves within 7-15 years and offer ecosystem services for farms, so planting hedgerows is a win-win - both for the wildlife they support, and for the farmers who plant them. Featuring Jessa Kay Cruz, Xerces Society; Thaddeus Barsotti, Capay Organic; Rachael Long, UC ANR. This video is a collaboration of the Center for Land-Based Learning, Bright Coast Productions, with guidance from Yolo County farmers and other partners. This activity is funded in part by the California Arts Council, a state agency. @landbasedlearning @Brightcoastproductionschannel
