Challenges to our faith allow us opportunities for growth. In our text for today, Jesus gives his disciples two such opportunities. They are sent out alone to preach the Gospel and upon their return told to give the 5,000 something to eat. In Luke 9:1–17, Jesus gives His disciples two faith-building challenges that stretch their trust and obedience. First, He sends them out to preach the Gospel and rely fully on God’s provision. Then, He asks them to feed the 5,000 with what seems insufficient. This study explores how God uses moments of weakness, scarcity, and uncertainty to grow our faith and teach us dependence on Him.
