On April 18, 2016, fitness instructor Missy Bevers arrived at Creekside Church of Christ in Midlothian, Texas at 4:18 AM to set up for her 5 AM Camp Gladiator boot camp class. What she didn't know was that someone was already inside waiting for her—and surveillance cameras captured everything. At 3:50 AM, over an hour before Missy arrived, an unknown person dressed in full police tactical gear entered the church. Security footage shows them walking through the hallways carrying a hammer, breaking glass, prying open doors, and moving with a distinctive gait. The person wore a helmet, tactical vest with "POLICE" written on it, gloves, and shin guards—completely obscuring their identity. When Missy's students arrived at 5 AM, they found her unresponsive with multiple puncture wounds to her head and chest. She was pronounced dead at the scene. This was Midlothian's first murder in over seven years. The surveillance footage has been analyzed by thousands of people worldwide, yet the killer has never been identified. Forensic experts initially estimated the suspect was between 5'2" and 5'7" tall, though this was later amended. The person's unique walking gait—possibly indicating an injury—sparked debate about whether the killer was male or female. Even a forensic podiatrist couldn't determine gender from the footage. Police investigated Missy's husband Brandon, who had an airtight alibi—he was 600 miles away on a fishing trip in Mississippi. They also looked into Brandon's father Randy, who walked with a limp and had taken bloodstained clothing to a dry cleaner days after the murder. The blood was tested and confirmed to be from his injured Chihuahua. Randy was traveling in California at the time of the murder, verified by flight records. Search warrants revealed Missy and Brandon were having financial and marital problems. Missy had been exchanging flirtatious LinkedIn messages with a man identified as a "person of interest." Less than three days before her murder, she received a "creepy and strange" message from an unknown person on LinkedIn. At 2 AM the morning of the murder, surveillance from SWFA Outdoors—a sporting goods store less than a mile from the church—captured a light-colored Nissan Altima driving erratically through the parking lot, flashing its lights and circling before leaving. Police have never identified the driver but say they want to speak with them. Eight years later, the case remains unsolved. Police have received over 3,000 tips but no arrests have been made. A $150,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction. This case is one of the most baffling unsolved murders in modern true crime. Someone knows who was in that church. Someone knows who owns that tactical gear. And someone is staying silent.
