The record-breaking speed at which the coronavirus pandemic was overcome would not have been possible without the decades-long work of Dr. Katalin Karikó. Together with her colleague Drew Weissman, she shed light on the inner workings of mRNA – insights that proved pivotal in developing coronavirus vaccines. Her substantial contributions to science have earned her numerous prestigious awards, including the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Today, she serves as a professor at her alma mater, the University of Szeged in Hungary, and as an adjunct professor at the University of Pennsylvania. We are proud to host Dr. Karikó as she discusses her extensive four-decade-long research focused on RNA-mediated mechanisms, aiming to advance in vitro-transcribed mRNA for protein therapy. In her talk Dr. Katalin Karikó did not only talk about science but also shared her personal experience and told her inspirational story. 00:05 Introduction Nelly Riggenbach, Director Brand Experience, Corporate Affairs, Novartis AG 01:47 Welcome Dr. Joerg Reinhardt, Chairman of Novartis 06: 45 Keynote Dr. Katalin Karikó 50:37 Q&A ©2024 Novartis AG
