Mark Scheifele's hit on Jake Evans was a good clean hit on a player who decided to go for the empty net goal and leave himself unprotected and vulnerable to a hard hit. It was not a late hit either. The time between the puck being on Evan's stick to the hit was less than 1 second, more like 100th of a second. I certainly hope Jake Evans gets well and recovers quickly because he was playing very well with his line mates Gallagher and Danault shutting down the Maple Leafs top line in Matthews and Marner. Mark Scheifele is not a dirty player. He's been a good player ever since he came into the league and he was just doing what he's supposed to do, backcheck, defend, and make hits on a guy who has the puck. Jake Evans should keep his head up and he could have decided not to score the goal and protect himself first but he didn't. He wanted to score the empty net goal and so he had to pay the price. Case in point Taylor Hall getting destroyed by Radko Gudas in a much more dangerous play. Hall got back up so nobody made a big deal of it. It was even called the best hit of the night lol. The difference here is that Evans was injured and so everyone just thinks Scheifele is at fault and Evans is 100% innocent.
