My journey to The Olde Farm started with a six-hour drive, which I knew once I walked off 18 I would be driving six hours back. The six-hour drive gave me plenty of opportunities to think, is it worth it, will it live up to the hype and will I have the energy to drive back home. Without hesitation, I am comfortable saying the Olde Farm Golf Course was absolutely worth the drive. While ranked No. 1 or 2 in Virginia by most publications and considered one of the better courses in America, I believe the Olde Farm is a hidden gem because, so few golfers have seen the course, which is located on Virginia’s western tip near the Tennessee border. The course was designed by Bob Weed, with perfect terrain and plenty of contours with rolling elevation changes making each hole unique. The fairways, especially on the front nine, are generous, which is excellent given the premium on the approach shots. But, with its considerably narrower fairways, the back nine requires equal attention as shots are approached. The staff was very accommodating and every detail for a perfect golf getaway was thought of and with all of this and the notoriety, The Olde Farm does not take itself too seriously. The conditions were impeccable and in pristine condition, many holes looked untouched. If presented an opportunity to play I highly recommend the course. Even if it may take a twelve-hour drive, it is well worth the golf experience.
